Mike 21
Developed by DHI, Mike 21 simulates 2D free-surface flows and related hydraulic processes, including:
- Marine and tidal currents
- Harbor flows affected by ships, wave disturbances, and breakwaters
- Heat and salinity cycles
- Scour, sediment transport, and deposition
- Water quality and pollution dispersion
Applicable in lakes, estuaries, bays, coastal areas, and seas. The software includes four modules for flexibility:
- Coastal & marine hydraulics
- Environmental hydraulics
- Sediment processes
- Waves
Mike 11
Also developed by DHI, Mike 11 simulates 1D flow, water quality, and sediment transport in rivers, canals, irrigation systems, and channels. It is modular and highly flexible, designed for:
- Rainfall-runoff
- Hydrodynamics
- Transport, diffusion, and cohesive sediment
- Water quality
- Non-cohesive sediment transport
Each module runs independently, with input/output usable across modules. Ideal for river and canal management, design, and water resource planning.
2D DIVAST Model
DIVAST (Depth Integrated Velocities and Solute Transport), created in 1976 by Falkoner, is a 2D horizontal model with three components: hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and pollutant transport. It predicts:
- Flow conditions
- Sediment transport
- Pollution dispersion
Commonly used in reservoirs, unstratified basins, and coastal waters where horizontal flow variations are significant relative to depth, and vertical mixing is effective. Sediment transport modeling is based on the advection-diffusion equation. DIVAST offers lower memory and computational costs compared to full 3D sediment models.
